Film Shot inspiration - Holly Stone

2001 Space Odyssey

An example of a shot type we intend to use is inspired by Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. This short film contains a good example of Graphic Match . The Graphic match appears after an ape discovers the use of bones as a tool and a weapon, he throws one triumphantly into the air. As the bone spins in the air, there is a Graphic match to a much more advanced weapon: an orbiting nuclear weapons satellite. The graphic match helps draw a connection between the two objects as examples of primitive and advanced tools respectively, and serves as a neat summary of humanity's technological advancement up to that point.

Above is a shot showing the transition between the bone and the satellite.A clear representation of humanities advancement through evolution.
Although we don't intend to use the Graphic Match in order to show a change in technology etc, we plan to use it as an example of time passing, and keeping the audience entertained. As our film is based on a female football player, we will use a football which will be kicked into each new scene, the football will be a significant object for our film.
