A Little Perspective - Holly Stone

A Little perspective
MRANG

The opening sequence of a little perspective begins with a birds eye view over a city. Non-diegetic police sirens play continuously throughout the beginning shots, then we hear someone calling for help. The restricted narration builds suspense and creates an enigma.

Above is the Extreme Low Shot of the characters.

A extreme low shot is taken as we are introduced to who appear to be the protagonists of the film, two plastic figures on the floor. This unexpected lead may great a bit of mystery as well as present us with some humor. Close ups are taken as shot reverse shots - a technique of continuity editing is used on the two characters faces as they converse, the male protagonist telling the female to hold on, we learn her name is Tish. This leads the audience to question whether what he said was metaphorical or not, as the female character is holding a balloon. He may be telling her to hold onto that but pragmatically, he could mean something else.

Tish lets the balloon go, and her friends facial expression shows he is surprised and shocked that she did. A non-diegetic "boom" sound echo's through the scene, giving the audience an idea that something dramatic is about to happen, while also alerting them to danger. A human appears by the alleyway where these characters are, seen in the distance with a over the shoulder shot.

Above we can see the facial expression presented by the male protagonist.
The shock/surprise will give an emotional feeling out towards the audience.
The human we see walking down the alleyway begins to approach the two figures on the floor, a non-diegetic 'emotional' and calm sounding music plays in the background. As the human approaches the figures, multiple flashbacks are seen through the two figures eyes, times they spent together, the music building a sound bridge as it continues playing through each of these scenes. Suspense builds more until we see a female crying on the stairs on a building beside the alleyway. Both the male and female humans look exactly the same as both the figures on the floor.
This is the girl we see on the stairs crying. The uses of misc en scene presented here is her body language and facial expression. It is clearly apparent to the audience that she is upset and hurting about something. We are not clear on what it is though.
The film ends on the two figures flying away while the two humans we see are re-united as a couple. It is unclear what the storyline is or the target audience, but the representation/moral could possibly be that 'the smallest things can make the biggest difference'. Hense the title 'A little perspective'. The two figures fly away together happily while the two humans who look exactly alike them are re-united. The genre of the film is also unclear but it appears as though it is a strange romantic drama.

  1. I'm pleased to see that you've used terms Holly. Could you check for accuracy though? For eg Extreme Low Shot isn't a standard term - this should be VLA. Comment also here on shallow depth of field, colour and the use of animation (if it is). Don't forget that you need to make each film research relevant to your creative process - ie comment on aspects you could take forward or something you think wasn't so successful.
