Directed and written by Micheal Evans
'Elroy wants to be left alone, but Clara is too curious about what he carries inside his cardboard box'
The first 3 minuets of the film switches between 3 different shots, a long shot of the bench, a close up on him and a close up on her.
The use of just these 3 shots keep it simple, this means the audience can be completely focus on the conversation they're having and not any odd camera angles.
When he starts to talk about his mum a non deiajetic sound track is played, it is a slow song which reflects what he is talking about. The First half of the film has a very slow editing pace, the pace then picks up when they go round with the post it notes.
Much darker than it was to begin with. |
The lighting changes while the go round with the post it notes it gradually gets darker, this show that time has passed since they started.
Although the 2 main character are both around the same age, class and other things very similar they are both represented very differently.
William Shakespeare's Star Wars. |
She is originally shown to be reading William Shakespeare's Star Wars: Verily, A New Hope, Which in considered to be a geeky or nerdy book, this show us that she does not care about what people think about her and that she can do what she wants.
Bright Clothes |
She is wearing Bright colours (a white top and bright pink trousers) these colours make her stand out, again showing what she isn't bothered about what people think of her.
Where He is wearing very dull clothes that doesn't draw any attention to him. What they are both wearing reflects there characters she is very out going and bold but he's more reserved and keeps to himself.
I think this films target audience would be young adults, Late teens to early 20's, but it could easy be enjoyed by anyone, as it is light hearted and fun.
I found this short film on You Tube, It could also be shown on short film web sites at film festivals and possible in some independent cinemas.

Vogler-
Clara and Elroy meet. |
This short film does sort of fit in to Voglers theory of a heroes journey-
Elroy is the 'Hero' of this film, his challenge would to to become a nicer person. He meets Clara (Mentor) who gives him advice and helps him achieve his 'quest'. The hero ‘crosses the threshold to the special world' Would be both of them going round with the post it notes, something which is probably out of his comfort zone. By the end of this he is a changed person.
camera work was chosen initially for the dialogue sequence
ReplyDeleteCareful in your spelling of DIEGETIC
If the music reflects what he is talking about wee use the term Parallel. Is the pace also reflective of mood?
Look forward to the rest of your analysis
