Mix Tape - Holly Stone

Mix Tape
Target Audience

The short film 'Mixtape" I believe's target audience is between the ages 30-50. The main reason for this presumption is the fact that there is an old mixtape which is the main object within the film. Mixtapes were popular within the 1970s-1980s and with this in mind, the short films target audience will be from those of 30 onwards. However, although mixtapes may be un-used and unpopular with the recent generations, some may recognize the objects through inheritance or from their elders and parents. So alternatively the target audience could possibly have an expansion towards younger viewers, and may inform and educate them.

The structure of the film, being the use of a mixtape may also bring back memories to those who are elderly, something which may have been done purposely by the director to enforce this idea of escapism (Uses and Gratifications theory - Blumer & Katz.) If a director can achieve the returning of thoughts and memories and even educate the younger generation, it may overall help improve the success of the film.

The ending shots of the film include both the child protagonists singing and dancing to an old song which is being streamed through the mixtape. The diegetic sound alongside the children singing alongside lifts the beat and emotions of the short film, and possibly making the older generations join along with singing the lyrics.
