Black Hole - Laura Brownlie

THE BLACK HOLE - Media language

At the beginning of 'The Black  Hole' a wipe from the centre of the frame is used as a transition from the titles to the first shot. This gives a circle effect from the centre of the screen moving outwards, it is the same shape as the black hole that we see later in the film.

The first shot is a medium tracking shot that moves in to show the main character, this is used as an establishing shot as there are no LS used in the whole film, We later see tracking shots used as a establishing shot or introducing a new setting the we first see the door to the office where the safe is kept.

It is set in a stereotypical office setting, it is full of dull colours and props that fit in to the settings, which helps create the atmosphere
There's no dialogue in the whole film, with a diajetic soundtrack of things in the office e.g. the sound of the photo copier. His farcical expressions and body language when he first finds the hole shows that this isn't normal this is backed up when he reaches in to the hole a non-diajetic Foley is used. this creates an  unreal feel to whats happening going with the images.
Every time he looks in a different direction in the next shot we are immediately show what he's looking at so we always know what is either going to happen or is happening.

  1. Make the point that the title sequence is being used as a narrative device - it is adding to the story and telling you, giving clues as to the nature of the film.

DIEGETIC - careful of your spelling FACIAL , also careful here.

Overall laura, this is really far too brief. You mention sound, but hardly anything on editing. You require a lot more detail if this is to reach level 4. I would go back and add more detail.

Presentation - you can use colour to signify things of importance -in this case, you have 4 technical codes - why not devote one colour to each and think of ways to emphasise key terminology.

    Level 2
